TURNING PINEAPPLE AND MANGO WASTE INTO VALUE NOT LANDFILL
At Fruveg Farms, we believe sustainability is built into the supply chain from farm to finished product. Our Eco Solutions Exploration program transforms by-products from pineapple and mango processing into high-value, low-impact materials and inputs: textile-grade fibers, eco-cosmetics, nutrient-rich animal feed, compost, and biodegradable detergents. We do this through R&D partnerships, local capacity building, and market-driven product development.
OUR APPROACH (circular, local, scalable)
1. Collect & sort — We work with our network of smallholder farmers and collection centers to recover pineapple leaves and fruit peels at the source, minimizing transport and spoilage.
2. R&D & processing — Through collaborations with CDTK (Spain), UESD, and CSIR-CRI, we refine fibre extraction and processing methods that turn pineapple leaf waste into textile-grade material while ensuring quality, safety and environmental compliance.
3. Value creation with partners — Together with Faivich Enterprise we convert pineapple and mango peels into eco-cosmetics, animal feed, compost and raw inputs for detergent production , closing the loop on post-harvest waste.
4. Product development & market entry — We pilot product lines (fabric swatches, compost batches, cosmetic prototypes, animal feed pellets, detergent samples), test them with target customers, and prepare for small-scale commercial runs.
5. Community & impact scaling — Farmers receive extra income for collected residues; local processors gain jobs and technical skills; communities benefit from reduced waste and improved soil health from compost applications.
KEY PARTNERSHIPS & ROLES
CDTK, Spain — Technical partner for advanced fibre engineering, helping translate pineapple leaf fibres into textile-ready formats and connecting us to sustainable textile supply chains.
UESD — Research collaboration and sustainable design input to ensure products meet environmental and user needs.
CSIR-CRI (Council for Scientific & Industrial Research — Crops Research Institute) — Local scientific validation, agronomic testing, and nutritional/compositional analysis for feed and compost products.
Faivich Enterprise — Industrial partner for upcycling fruit peels into commercial eco-cosmetics, detergent ingredients, animal feed formulations and composting systems.
WHAT WE’RE MAKING
Pineapple-leaf textiles — Durable, naturally textured fibre for linings, accessories and specialty fabrics developed with CDTK for low-energy processing and reduced chemical use.
Eco-cosmetics (peel extracts) — Fruit-based actives and botanical extracts for gentle cleansers, serums and scrubs — formulated with natural preservatives and biodegradable packaging in mind.
Animal feed — Nutrient-balanced feed components derived from tested peel fractions, processed for safety and digestibility under CSIR-CRI guidance.
Compost & soil conditioners — High-quality organic compost made from controlled decomposition of peels and processing residues — ideal for our farms and local smallholders.
Bio-detergent ingredients — Surfactant precursors and fragrance bases derived from fruit residues and botanical by-products for low-toxicity, biodegradable detergents.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL BENEFITS
Reduced waste & emissions: Diverting agricultural residues from open disposal reduces methane and other greenhouse emissions.
Increased farmer income: Paying for collection creates an additional revenue stream for smallholders.
Job creation & skills transfer: New local processing, R&D, and value-chain jobs.
Soil health: Returning compost to farms improves soil structure, water retention and fertility.
Sustainable products: Consumers gain access to ethically produced textil…
